Viva l’Italia! Anybody wanna go to Naples? This afternoon…? We can tell our families that Lucia Pica and Chanel made us do it. I can pack a bag and be ready to go in an hour…
YEAH, RIGHT! Who am I kidding? You know it would take me at least a half a day to pack my makeup.
OK, maybe a full day. 😊
Lucia is shaking things up at Chanel with all kinds of color, and her latest collection, Spring-Summer 2018, is a shout-out to her hometown of Naples, Italy.
If Naples looks anything like the blues, greens, reds and yellows in this launch, I could easily fall in love with it. So let’s go, yeah? If you know a good travel agent, call her and get the hookup! Girls trip, April 2018! 🙋✈️🍷
OK, back to reality…
Spring-Summer 2018 is a pretty big launch, and so far I know I like the eyeshadow palette and the green liner.
Here are some quick thoughts on the other pieces I’ve tried (some which I like more than others).
Ombre Premiere Longwear Cream Eyeshadow in 824 Verderame ($36, limited edition)
824 Verderame reminds me of a metallic cream version of MAC Club eyeshadow, but without the brown, and I love it with a matte brown in the crease, and either a charcoal or dark green liner on the water lines. It’s pigmented and GORGEOUS. It also dries in less than 30 seconds, so don’t dilly-dally! — or you’ll end up with harsh edges (a lesson I learned the hard way). Keep the small white brush that comes with the pot, too, because it’s surprisingly great and easy to use. The bristles deposit lots of color.
Rouge Coco Gloss Moisturizing Glossimer in 794 Poppea ($30, limited edition) and 792 Aphrodite ($30, permanent)
These are two of the four glosses in the collection. They’re shiny, moisturizing, non-sticky, and they briefly taste and smell like roses when you put them on.
My favorite is sheer poppy red Poppea, which I 💖. It looks like a coral tint on my lips, and it’s low-maintenance, playful and summery.
As for the blue gloss, it looks cool in the tube (and blue glosses are supposed to make your teeth look whiter), but I can’t see the tint at all on my lips…so it’s basically like wearing a $30 clear gloss.
You can pass on this one without feeling like you missed out…
BTW, I’m weirdly obsessed with these doe foots (doe feet?)! They’re shaped like little boat oars and feel fab on my lips for some reason.
Dimensions de Chanel Mascara in 50 Nero Metallo ($30, limited edition)
I don’t know why I even bother with other mascaras because Chanel’s are SO GOOD. One coat of Nero Metallo is like three coats of most other mascaras. It specializes in volume, separation and curl hold.
If Le Volume is your date-night mascara, Nero Metallo would be your daytime, workday version.
Chanel describes the color as metallic gray, and I can kinda see it when I swatch it on my skin, but I can’t really see the gray on my lashes.
I’m in love with this formula, though, and plan to get it in Noir (basic black) as soon as I finish this tube. It’s easy to remove, doesn’t flake, and it doesn’t smudge either. All around, it rocks!
Rouge Allure Velvet in 66 L’Indomabile ($37, permanent)
Lucia Pica loves a red 👄 lippie, and this one is a pigmented poppy with a finish that looks like brushed suede. I think it looks a lot like MAC Fashion Legacy with a shinier, more velvety finish, and it’s also, um…how should I put this? Less aggressive? Less intense? More like the soft matte finish on an eggshell.
Anyway, I hoard reds, so of course I love it. LOL!
The Rouge Allure Velvets have my favorite Chanel lipstick formula because of how smooth, light and comfy they feel. They aren’t too drying, and I love that the finish is matte, but it isn’t too matte, if you know what I mean.
Adding this to my go-to red lip bag.

Karen
P.S. Happy birthday, Connor Claire! 🎀🎁🎈
