I’m not surprised anymore to see red and gold in a holiday makeup collection, because it’s typical, or, as the cool kids like to say these days, “#basic.”
I mean, how many times have we seen red and gold holiday makeup collections!? I’ve been doing this for 10 years, and I lost count. So I think it was pretty unusual, in a welcome way, to see Chanel go with red and platinum for the new LIBRE 2017 NUMÉROS ROUGES collection.
And we’re not talking about a basic platinum either.
It’s called 822 Silver Screen, and it’s a warm-toned platinum OMBRE PREMIÈRE, one of Chanel’s Longwear Cream Eyeshadows.
If you look closely, you should see a hint of khaki…
The khaki took me a little while to see. I had to stare at the swatch on my skin, but as I meditated on it (wait — doesn’t everybody do that with their eyeshadow??), I spotted an essence of khaki green.
Then the mental makeup gears started turning… “Ooh! I’ll do green liner with this eyeshadow. It’ll be magical.”
My hunch was correct. I applied two layers of Silver Screen on top of a dark forest green liner, which emphasized the khaki even more and turned my brown eyes into rich discs of the most delectable dark chocolate…
Mmm…
That’s such a common combo in nature — green and brown — but Mother Nature got it hella right. It’s also a great makeup combo, and it’s nothing short of EVERYTHING for brown eyes.
As a side, you do have to be diligent with Silver Screen, because it sets and dries quickly, so blend any edges right after you pat each layer. In other words, don’t dilly-dally, missy.
Also, because Silver Screen is a flashy metallic, you’ll want to refrain from applying too many layers. More than three, and it starts to look heavy.
Silver Screen is $36, limited edition, and you’ll find it luxuriating on counters now, along with the rest of the Chanel holiday collection.
